Antique table snuffbox in the shape of a book with the engraving on the cover, "FINIS CORONAT OPUS, / THE END CROWNS THE WORK." Almost certainly formerly owned by a student, the engraving, which exudes a special charm despite its crudeness, suggests a not-so-wealthy owner. However, the snuffbox is very neatly crafted, and the book-like shape suggests a possibly educated profession. England between 1820 and 1850. Very fine condition.
