Rare antique Ulm burlwood pipe. Ulm, Germany, 1775-1800. The pipe bowl is carved and designed as a mythical creature holding the silver tenon in its mouth. In the center of the bowl, two lions frame a silver owner's monogram with the letters "M H". The carving is crowned at the top. Compact silver mount; the chain has been replaced based on fragments. The stem consists of a finely turned wooden tenon, lacquered black. The upper half of the stem is capped by a slender deer crown with a horn mouthpiece. Very fine condition. Deko not for sale!
