Vernis Martin Tabatiere, France between 1750-1770. Paper mache, primed black with a final green varnish, can edges and edging presumably in gold sheet; the woman's portrait, which is crowned with floral motifs, is executed in fine guache painting, which was protected from damage and wear with glass. The interior is painted in a tortoiseshell look. Normal abrasion and signs of wear, very nice overall condition.
