One of the most famous snuffboxes after Nicolas Toussaint Charlet: the grenadier of the old guard at Waterloo "la Garde Meurt et – ne se rend pass" - the guard dies but does not surrender. Pressed peach wood, lined with tortoise shell. This snuffbox was extremely popular in the post-Napoleonic era with almost all veterans of the Grand Army, especially with the survivors of Napoleon's old guard. France after 1820.
