Antique Snuffbox
Antique and very old snuffbox for smoking tobacco. Brass chased and engraved. The lid of the box is engraved with a princely crown and the monogram "MO" surrounded by floral tendrils. The base of the box is decorated with the engraved name and year "COURDT OTTEN 1698." On the inside of the lid, the rather scratched engraving "Anno 1695" is faintly legible. The snuffbox was probably made in northern Germany between 1680 and 1690. Snuffboxes made before 1700 are somewhat rare on the collector's market. This box is in very good condition.
